Prevalence of Blood Group A2 in Northern Pakistan

Objective: To determine the prevalence of A1 and A2 subgroups blood group A in healthy donors northern Pakistan.
 Study Design: Cross sectional study.
 Place Duration Study: Armed Forces Institute Transfusion, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Sep to Dec 2017.
 Methodology: The samples reported during study period at Transfusion were collected. ABO typing was performed those AB further subtyped using anti-A1 lectin thus individuals labelled as (and A1B) or A2B). serum with groups A2B tested for based on reaction red cells.
 Results: Out total 4485 donors, 1116 (24.88%) 422 (9.41%) group. 146 (13.08%) among subgroup A2. While out AB, 80 (18.95%) A2B. 21 (14.38%) group, had antibody while only 2 (2.50%) their serum.
 Conclusion: Blood is quite prevalent our population. Although present significant fraction individuals, routine testing not needed identify cross match compatibility requirement rarely active 37° C.
